    Friday Fun: Running Music

    SHARE

Whether or not to run with headphones has been hotly debated by runners since the invention of the Walkman.  Without igniting that debate again, I will tell you there are circumstances in which I will run with my mp3 player.

As much as we debate whether to run with music, there is always tons of conversation on what to run to!  I don’t know about all of you, but there are songs in my running playlists that I would not listen to any other time.  Then there are the guilty pleasures that I secretly love, but will never admit to!

Here are some links to suck up your Friday afternoon:  Jog Tunes is a neat site that has music sorted by the beats-per-minute, so that if you have immense difficulty maintaining any kind of consistent pace when you run to music, you can construct your playlist based on your cadence.  Running Music Mix is another one.  It doesn’t tell you who the artists are, but links to playlists on iTunes so you can see the artists as well as preview the tracks.

So what about you?  What songs are an absolute must on your list?  And can you share why they’re there??

What about your favourite mp3 player?

I want to hear about it!  Post your comments in the section below, or email me at iRun_Karen@live.com and I will post next Friday!

A runner for just over four years, Karen has already completed a marathon, two half marathons and a variety of 5k and 10k races. She describes her first marathon - the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon last September - as "a nightmare." However, she met a very interesting person in the process - a man named Sydney who was running his 152nd marathon! Although the race didn't go as well as planned for Karen or Sydney, he showed her that no matter how experienced a runner you are, you can still have a bad day. "Does that mean we shouldn't bother to prepare, or maybe just shouldn't bother at all? Of course not!" says Karen. "In the end, it is what we make it." We like her optimism!
