When the 25th Anniversary of pride & remembrance run was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the volunteer-led board was determined to celebrate this milestone in 2021, whether it be in person or virtually. We are proud to announce that the pride & remembrance run is back to celebrate twenty-five fun. fast. fab. years of bringing runners and walkers together to promote and foster community spirit in the Canadian LGBTQ+ community! This year is unique as the virtual race format allows runners to participate across Canada during Race Week June 19-27, and celebrate the 25th anniversary of the pride & remembrance run.
For the first time ever, as a virtual event, the pride & remembrance run will offer a race kit party box shipped free to registered participants in Canada that includes a medal, limited edition souvenir items, personalized bibs, stickers and more. US participants can receive their race kits for a small additional shipping charge. The race is also introducing some exciting new options for this year’s event—a kids race, a 25km anniversary team challenge and a free community option to ensure that everyone is able to participate including international runners.
The pride & remembrance run has selected over 25+ ambassadors that are eager to connect, inspire and promote the race’s message of inclusion and giving back to the community. This year’s roaster of ambassadors represents a diverse array of experienced and new runners, LGBTQ+ identifying community members, allies and elite athletes. You can check out all of the 2021 ambassadors here, please feel free to reach out to them if you have any questions about race prep, are looking for training tips or need some pointers on how to take a great runfie (running selfie)!
The pride & remembrance run is the largest and longest-running pride run in Canada and one of the most popular running events in the GTA. Since 1996, the Pride and Remembrance Association has raised over $2 million for local charities that support the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBTQ+) community.
“The pride & remembrance run is all about being different, unique, and being yourself. It is the reason why and how the run serves the community.” said PRA President, Christopher Brohman. “This annual tradition promotes inclusivity and diversity in a welcoming environment that allows everyone to achieve their own goals fostering community spirit, goodwill and sportsmanship in the LGBTQ+ community while raising critical funds that support the chosen beneficiaries. The annual run/walk is devoted to the celebration and support of Toronto’s diverse LGBTQ+ community.”
