I am so excited about running the Mercedes Benz 10K in Oakville on May 8th! Mercedes Benz has been kind and gracious enough to agree to not only sponsor me to run the race but they will be picking me up at my home on the morning of the race in a …..you guessed it….Mercedes Benz ! How cool is that?!
THAT is totally cool! I think that they really must care about their people and their runners as they want me to arrive refreshed and unhasselled at the starting line so that I can run my very fastest time ever in a 10K! Actually, I have never run a 10K before (silly me …I started with the longer distances first!…LOL) and I am looking forward to seeing the turnout of the crowd and the course too!
THANKS SO MUCH to MERCEDES BENZ for all of their support!!
I REALLY appreciate it!
Aleks enjoys ‘just running’ so much that she doesn’t see any reason to do a race. In fact, a race placed strategically into a training block can take a runner to another level. After many weeks of tough marathon training with tempo workouts, mileage and long runs, a girl needs to freshen up. Aleks has carried a heavy load of career and the Makeover training program through winter and the long transition to spring. The Mercedes Benz 10k race week will be a well deserved rest week with a light, fast workout, easy running, and no long run. Aleks’ body will get a chance to regenerate. As a coach, I can use this 10k effort to assess how fit Aleks is and to plan the appropriate marathon race plan & pace for her in Ottawa on May 29. The race environment will also give Aleks a chance to test out all the pre-race logistics and issues such as which shoes to wear, which socks work best, warm-up routine, bathroom routine, early morning wake-up, body parts which need vaseline, etc. I expect that the race experience will be a wake-up and a shake-up. This 10k is only a teaser of bigger things to come on Marathon race day.
