26.2 miles . . . what is it about this distance that makes it SO challenging?
So my goal marathon happened on Sunday the 15th here in Toronto; the TCS Toronto Waterfront Marathon and this question is floating around in my head and I’m humbled and very grateful to have completed this distance.
It was a perfect day weather-wise and my team BlackToe was all over the course supporting and cheering, which was unbelievable. Still, marathons are hard.
I sat with the 3:10 pacer for about 32K and then my body started screaming. Hips were incredibly fatigued with sharp bilateral pain and this started my slowing pace. So the last 12K were not pretty — lol — especially with the blowing wind, but let me tell you: I was grateful my body and mind held up to the finish.
26.2 was the final chapter of a strong training cycle for me with every day stresses and a few surprise life things! Ces la vie, right?! I’m blessed to have found my thing that makes me happy and to do it with people I love and have so much respect for.
Thank you iRun readers for following my entries, and thank you HOKA for seeing me through. I’m just a mother runner that loves the art of running and everything that comes along with it.
I am humbled and blessed.
So what’s on the horizon? Boston 2024 As my coach said: maybe a flat marathon to see if I can push my pace, but in the meantime: recover well, my friends, and thank you from the bottom of my heart for your support.
I am a lucky runner.
