Why you should Race in Edmonton in August

Still feeling the runner’s high from crossing the line at Sunday’s Canada Running Series Edmonton 10K brought to you by lululemon? Suffering from FOMO so much you can’t believe you’ll have to wait until next year to run in Edmonton? Turns out you can relax. There’s another stand out race happening in Edmonton next  month and you can still get in on many distances of the Edmonton Marathon. Here’s why you’ll want to run in Edmonton this summer.

This is the marathon where you will feel right at home. No intimidation here. We make it more personal, more genuine, more fun. With events for the whole family, from the ABC Kids Run to the Marathon, there’s something for everyone! Our full-on marathon weekend features specials ways to connect with your friends and other runners and make new ones along the way!

We know; it may seem strange that climate (in Edmonton of all places!) is one of the reasons why you should race here. But in August, you can’t ask for better weather for running. Cooler temperatures in the morning give your hard-working body a bit of a break and help you settle into a comfortable rhythm. And what could be better than the sun breaking through the clouds as you victoriously cross the finish line?!

One of our signature race mottos is FAST AND FLAT. And we aren’t just saying that because it sounds catchy. The Edmonton terrain can be described as flat to gently rolling- and you’ll never be more thankful for that as a race participant! Our goal is to get you to that finish line with a strong qualifying time or a personal best. And speaking of qualifying times- the Servus Edmonton Marathon is a qualifier for the Boston Marathon, so if you needed another reason to run, there you go!

Let your pre-race jitters get the best of you the night before the big day OR have some drinks and socialize with fellow runners at Central Social Hall? Seems like a no-brainer to us! Tickets for our pre-race party are available, plus you’ll have the chance to win some awesome draw prizes!

If we aren’t convincing enough, maybe some of our ambassadors can do a better job:

“It is a festival weekend, there’s plenty to do outside of the race with various events. The support from the people as you run is fantastic. It is a flat course which is perfect for those chasing a Boston Qualifying time or a Personal Best time in any of the distances offered.” – Ben

“Running Edmonton is like coming home no matter where you’re from. The course support is fantastic and every single person, from other runners to passing felines to volunteers and police stopping traffic, will keep you motivated and happy.” – Susan

“Our city has some beautiful views and this is a great (mostly flat) course to attain a personal best! There is a distance for everyone and you get to stop traffic on Jasper Ave!” – Christy

“It’s so well organized and has a great vibe. The whole city seems to get into it, with people cheering almost the whole way! The views of the river valley are incredible!” – Jaime
